I’m honestly a little surprised this episode immediately picked up with last week’s. I thought we were going to have to wait a bit and focus on some other adventure instead. As it turns out, Fennec’s contact was Ventress after all. The character’s inclusion in this season was definitely the most talked about moment from the trailer and her big return is finally here. Admittedly, I do have mixed feelings about all of it, but we still don’t the full story yet so I’ll reserve official judgement for later. Otherwise, this was a decent episode that offered some insight to where this series may go and into future stories. I’d give it a 7/10.
So Ventress has finally returned to screens after many years. First and foremost, the character was canonically killed off in Dark Disciple, but I’m sure a number of watchers aren’t actually aware of that. The creators have addressed respecting the continuity and while this episode doesn’t give us the full picture, one piece of dialogue casually thrown in gives us a clear indicator. Ventress mentions having several more lives left should the Empire come after her, ergo Nightsister magick. This was probably the most obvious answer. She ventures off at the end, but will no doubt return in the following episodes. I seriously doubt her return from death is solely meant for this series alone and am confident the next animated show will revolve around her, showcasing the underworld and an eventual reunion with Quinlan Vos. That’s all just pure speculation though.
In regards to Omega’s m-count and force sensitivity, I think they played it safe. Yes, she could’ve been trained, but it appears to be low level and doesn’t seem to be where her story is headed, at least I think. Next episode is titled “Identity Crisis”, so she may ponder with the idea of using the force, but ultimately remain content with who she currently is and stay with her brothers. There are lots of ideas about her being trained by Ventress when the Batch is killed off though.
